permissions issues

ever since a system restore had issues accessing things.

For example, in my contacts file i cant access the contacts details unless I mannually go in and change the permissions to allow me.

I have 500 contacts and dont want to do this for all of them.

also I often get a message "you dont have permission to do this" when elsewhere on my pc.

How can I just set it onece and for all without all this permissions crap - I'm tired of it.

Maybe your profile has corrupted. Try creating a new User Account with Admin permissions and log on onto it. Do you still have the same problem? If not, see here for help to fix the problem.

No amount of "tweaking" is going to help if your profile has corrupted.

I dont know that it's corrupted but persistent permissions issues can indicate it's corrupted and the only way to tell is to try the suggestion I mentioned. It's the only fix as well (aside from backing up and reformating) but if you dont wish to try it, it's no skin off my nose.

IMPORTANT: Do not try this on your own C:\ drive (boot drive). It will change so many permissions that you will end up having to re-install windows.

The above link references Windows 7 but the same is true of Vista.

And in the time you have spent arguing with me, you could have tried my suggestion ding dong. I wont be assisting you further.

i'm not arguing, just trying to fix the issue instead of work arounds.

The link says dont try this for c: drive because it will screw windows.

Are not all the programs on C?
