No letters after it? See here. Click on the appropriate link and then click on Software & Driver Downloads. Choose your Operating System from the list. Download the appropriate driver for your Graphics Card and install it. The installation directions are under the Download button. Reboot afterwards and let me know if you still have a problem with both freezing and resuming after closing and opening your lid.

To find out what Graphics Card you have, click on the Start orb and type Device Manager in the Start Search box and open it when it appears. Click on Display Adaptors and you should see your driver. If you want more help before proceeding, write down the name of the driver and post it here.

After doing that, I let my computer sit for 30 minutes, with no screensaver or anything of that sort on. There was no freezing. After that, I shut the lid for about 45 minutes. I came back and opned the lid, to once again find a black screen. I let it sit for about 5 minutes with no change.

Seems that at this point, if I don't close the lid, it's ok.

I had a look on the HP site Youk and there are dozens of users with similar problems, They are mostly unresolved however I found a couple that reported updating their bios fixed the problem.

I reinstalled my graphics driver and I updated my BIOS (even though it was the same version I had), and I have not yet had a freeze after inactivity, knock on wood.

Thank you very much for your help on this, I am very grateful for it.
