Router Connection But No Internet
I'm adding another PC to my little home network. I'm using a WRT54G router and the new PC is using a Netgear adapter.
The new PC is running Vista and I can connect to the router, but cannot get internet. If I use the next door neighbours connection I can open a browser, but not with mine. It leads me to believe something is amiss with my router and I can't seem to find it. Any ideas? Thanks! |

is that a wireless connection and is your wireless network encypted?

Yup. WEP, I believe.

Well, I assuming that you have your other computer 'wired' to the router and that this connection is working fine - correct? Just for beginners, you might want to try to connect your 'new' computer (laptop, I assume) via an ethernet cable to determine if a wired connection will work; also, you could enter the browser configuration program of your router, and 'disable' WEP to see if you can then connect 'wirelessly' - that will help 'narrow' your choices down to encryption issues w/i your router and/or VISTA - good luck & please reply back, since there may be other explanations for your problem -

Hi, Giradman....
The main PC is wired to the router... no problems. The new one is not a laptop, but a desktop. I have another PC connected to this wireless network and it connects to the internet just fine. It is using XP as is the main PC. I'll try disabling the WEP to see if that's the issue, since it can connet to the neighbours unecrypted wireless connection. Thanks! Quote:

Disabling WEP allows access.

Are you using the wireless zero to connect?
Try removing your wireless under the preffered networks and reconnect again. |

I'm not sure I know what this means.

Since you said earlier it is a Destop are you using a built in wireless adapter or not?

Oh so are you using the NETGEAR?
okay just open its smart wizard go to NETWORKS TAB connect to your network it will bring you to the SETTINGS TAB. Under Security, choose the radio button under Enter Key Manually and then beside the Key 1: put in your WEP key and then Hit Apply. Now try to connect on the internet Last edited by Kinzzey; September 15th, 2008 at 12:51 AM. |

As close as I can get is the phrase "connected to the router."

How about changing the SSID of your Router Wireless Settings
and put the security on WPA-PSK [TKIP]. By the way, what is the model number of your NETGEAR? |

Sorry for the delay in a reply.
I can try changing the SSID... I'll give that a whirl. As for the Netgear, it's WG111v2 |
