Unhappy Internet Explorer

Hi I have posted this problem at another board and I think it has stumped them as it did me (not that, that is very difficult) .

I am hoping some one here might have had a similar problem and will have some suggestions.

Here goes:

I can get to the web ok but, when I try to open up my accounting software (Quick Books 2003) it tells me I need IE 6.0 or greater. (which I have I'm using it now)

If I try to get to a web site from my favorite folder in the start menu it says

1st window

“This file does not have a program associates with it for performing this action. Create an Association in the folder option control panel.” (What is that about?)

2nd window
“ The object that ”c\documents and settings\administrator\ desktop\tech support guy forms-user control panel for toat.url” refers to has been removed or is inaccessible”

Also: If one of my clients sends me a link and I go to click on the blue line it will not open unless I open IE first.

I think when I was trying to get rid of the Spyware I downloaded I may have accidentally deleted something I shouldn’t have

I called Intuit and the tech had me uninstall and reinstall quick books twice, they also had me reinstall IE 6.0 (only) from the quick books disk none of this worked. He then said it was a Microsoft issue. I tried to talk to them for help but they sail I had to call Dell. I have not been able to get a hold of them.

The nice people on the other board found the following information useful

For the first issue

Easiest way to do this is to find the file that the favourites folder, right click it and use Open With, in that dialog select Internet Explorer and set the option to always use that program.

I have tried that I went through the entire area and made sure that mine matched the Front Office (We all have the same computers networked together)

ah if you're in an office situation with identical machines it's likely that your technical support guys have an image CD that they build all the machines from, so it would be a fairly simple matter for them to back up your data and reinstall their image.

You would think so, but the company that we hire out for our networking only has a backup of the server. Apparently they didn't realize one of the client computers could have problems.

Needless to say we are looking for a new company.

Could they not clone a working machine onto yours?
