Agree - check in sound applet in the Control Panel (third tab -> Sounds to determine which features are associated w/ a sound); I'm assuming that you once had 'sound' for these functions?

Also check 'Internet Options' in IE - 'advanced' tab - scroll down to the 'multimedia' category to determine if the appropriate boxes are 'ticked' - good luck; and please report back if you find a solution - others may be having the same problem. Thanks -

Thanks .... I checked all that and it's set as it should be. It's as if another app won't release the sound card. How can I check that?
Thanks ........

just reviving this thread. I check all the above but still no sounds. I don't even get a sound when I got to "sounds" and test the .wav sounds.
Thanks for any help.

I'm having the same problem! I upgraded from XP Pro, to Home Premium and my sound completely disappeared!
It's supposed to be Creative Audigy from Creative Technology and when I visited their site, it says they don't support VISTA!!
I have a Pavilion m7695y.

My driver is for Creative Audigy from Creative Technology. When I visited their site, it said they don't support Vista!

Finally got my sound working!
Here's what I received from HP:

http://in.creative.com/support/downloads/
1) Select 'Sound Blaster' from the products (first box)
2) Select 'Audigy' in the second box
3) Select Audigy 4 and click on 'Next'
It will redirect you to a page where you have to select the Operating System
4) Select your language as 'English'
5) Select your Operating System as 'Windows Vista 32 bit'
6) Select the file type as 'Driver'
7) Click on 'Go'
8) Click on 'Download' and Accept the terms and Conditions
9) Now you can install the audio driver.
If you have further issues in installing the driver, please write back to us
We will be glad to asssit you further.
This should install the audio driver.
