password lockout

my 85 yr old dad just passed away and left a Acer computer with vista operating system. His only password he left does not work and we do not have a disk. How do I go about resetting so we can get this computer online and working again.

Is this a Password to get into Windows? Or a password for your BIOS? If Windows comes up then it ask for a password, then its a Windows Password.

When the Windows log-on screen comes on is he the only one listed? Is there another person listed like maybe Administrator? If so use it then you can change the password for your Dad's
