New pc, new to Vista, can't install any downloads
Hi,
I just set up my new pc and am attempting to download and install a couple of apps (CCleaner and iTunes 9). Both downloads from repeated attempts are getting the same message when I try to install : "...exe not a valid Win32 application". I've tried installing from various locations but to no avail and I've tried clearing my browser history as suggested on a website out there. I'm on Vista Home Premium and downloading with Explorer and with Firefox. Any help would be much appreciated. Paul |

Hi Paul, I have to log out now but I have merged both your topics as one may be related to the other.
Do you have AVG installed? If so, it's this application that is generating the Prevalence reporter error message. This error coupled with your download problem might indicate an infection. I need to see some logs to be able to determine this though. Go here and download DDS to your Desktop and doubleclick on DDs.pif to run it. When the scan has finished, two logs will open. Copy and paste both reports in this topic. The logs will be reasonably large so you may have to divide them into sections and make several posts to post them. If you have problems downloading it, you may have to download the file from another computer and copy it to yours. I'll look at your logs tomorrow. |

Oops - I saw the two posts merged and thought I'd made a posting error and tried to un-merge them - sorry!
I do have AVG installed - a trial version of AVG 8. I'll do as you've asked re DDS. Cheers |

Hi,
The DDS application encounters the same "not a valid Win32 application" message. I notice on my Downloads dialoge that the application is 0KB, as is the iTunesSetup setup download. |

Hi Ann Marie
I may have managed to crack this one. I had AVG 8 trial installed from a pc mag cover disc and when I tried to update it it said it was corrupted. I tried to install Kaspersky Full Program from the same disc and it would not install as dispite my efforts at uninstalling AVG it was still finding some AVG fragment that prevented the installation. Eventually I installed AVG Free in the hope that that might work and reconnected to the net. That seemed to work and it seems to now allow me to install itunes and CCleaner. Fingers crossed. Cheers for now Paul |
