Do you have SP1 or 2 installed? There's a notice on Windows Update that you'll need these soon, doesn't say how soon, to update your computer. I finally got SP2 and have had no problems so far.

I was reading about this the other night, there's no specific date as of yet, but it will start sometime around May/June in the US. It is part of the anti-piracy initiative they will be launching.

In regards to the problem, do you receive any specific error?

Maybe this will help:

Clear your Internet Explorer temporary files and cookies, and then remove the Windows Update temporary files. To do this:

1. Delete your Temporary Internet files and Cookies
a. Start Internet Explorer, and then click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
b. On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet files, and then click Delete Files.
c. Click OK.
2. Delete the Windows Installer temporary files. These files are stored in a hidden folder. You must make the folder visible.
a. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
b. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
c. Click the View tab.
d. Click to clear the Hide protected operating system flies (Recommended) check box.
e. Click to select theShow Hidden files and folders option, and then click OK.
f. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
g. Double-click WUTemp.
h. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
i. On the File menu, click Delete. If you are prompted to confirm the file deletion, click Yes.
3. Try to install the Windows Update files again from the following Microsoft Web site: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

If the installation does not succeed, continue to step 4.

4. Repeat steps 1 and 2, and then rename the WindowsUpdate folder. To rename the WindowsUpdate folder:
a. Open My Computer.
b. Double-click Local Disk (C:), and then double-click Program Files.
c. Right-click the WindowsUpdate folder, and then click Rename.
d. Type: OldWindowsUpdate

Smile Read the thread just above you..

by Wages of Sin

AutoUpdates are missing

as I had the same problem and HP support gave me 7
steps to follow .. which I did, and Steps 4 and 5 took care
of the whole problem. I pasted the Steps HP sent me
under Wages of Sin's post. The main problem I think,
was in the IUengine .. something had been changed
back in August...

I had also posted my own thread which is way lost
now, called Automatic Updates.. in which I asked for
some help on this problem, but the HP answser
is in the thread I mentioned above.

Will check later to see if you have read this and
were helped.
