Runtime error 48 - file not found PSAPI.DLL

My son infected my computer last night. He downloaded a file from a friend, despite my strict instructions never to download anything!

The message "Runtime error 48 - file not found PSAPI.DLL" appears on the startup of Windows. When I click on OK, the computer becomes idle both in normal and safe mode.

Is there anything that I can do?

Hi

What do you mean by idle???

Easiest way to start would be to try scanreg/restore.
You can do this from a command prompt.
It will restore your registry to a point before it became infected.

Let us know.

Cheers

Beanie

Runtime error 48 - file not found PSAPI.DLL

Hi there,

By idle, I mean that it is completely useless - the desktop does not load at all. It just hangs before loading properly.

Runtime error 48 - file not found PSAPI.DLL

Hi there,

I have run Spybot a couple of weeks ago, and have Sophos anti virus.
I'm sure I have a Win98 CDrom.

Runtime error 48 - file not found PSAPI.DLL

Hi there,
I tried "scanreg/restore" at the C: prompt, but all I got was a bad command. Should I have done something different?
I do have a Windows98 CD if needed.
Many thanks.
