Trying to set up printer(s)
Hello, I am trying to set up a couple of printers and am having trouble. I am using the Printing Manager. I click "add printer class" , local printer(parallel, serial,USB) Under "USB" printer #1, then i choose my printers :Canon BJC-2100 and my HP psc 1210v all-in-one,(course i am doing this one at a time) Comes up with recomended driver, click next, try to test print and i keep getting a message "Unable to create temporary printer" Could someone please tell me what i am doing wrong? On my HP printer,it does not list my printer and i am still trying to find a driver for it,several web sites i have been to is to me just a buch of gibberish, tells me to run this and this, make sure it says this and that and i have no idea where to even start looking to see if it says all that. I would so much prefer to use my HP printer but if i could just get my Canon to work, that would be just fine for now. I just get so confused on where to look for things on here and how to use the "Run Command" Thank you to anybody that can help me on this. I am pretty sure my version is ALT Linux Junior 2.2 Kenny |

I have very little experience with printers directly in Linux, I use CUPS (Common Unified Printing System) and it detected my Canon S400 with no problems right out of its wizard. You might want to see if ALTLinux has CUPS installed.

In your webbrowser type the following into the address field:
http://localhost:631/ if you get a webpage and not a "not found" error, then you have CUPS installed. On the webpage you'll see a manage printers link, that should help you configure available printers. |

You can also type /usr/sbin/alternatives --config print at the root prompt. This will show all print systems installed on your linux distribution.
