Adobe Photoshop
Well, my mom is having this problem with her photos. She takes them on a 4.5mp digi camera(mintola? i think) on the finest quality that is possible. When she opens theses pictures in Photoshop 5.0 they allways come up as 72dpi. Unfortunatly she needs the pictures at atleast 150dpi for her catolouge.
How do I fix this for her. Just for reference she just bought the Cyber-shot® DSC-W7 Digital Camera. Which is 7.2 Megapixel (3072 x 2304 Pixels). But I think that she'll still have the same problem with it. Is there anyway to change how photoshop opens the pictures? So that it will always open at 150dpi no matter what? |

I'm not a Photoshop or graphics expert, but 72DPI is the standard screen resolution.
All photos will be that resolution on screen. There should be another DPI mentioned somewhere in the file/details that will be the proper or print resolution. |

Well, I've opened up other pictures using Photoshop, and the one opened as a 150dpi, and it was taken with a webcam

DPI (resolution) adjustment is probably in the Resize options. I don't use Photoshop but in Paint Shop Pro and IrfanView you can adjust it without actually resizing. I usually change images to 300dpi (and sometimes resize to my actual needs ) when I want to print something without the jaggies. That resolution makes it appear very large on a monitor which displays at 72 or 96dpi but fine for printing.

i thought that when you changed it after you opened it, it would not make a difference to the quality of the photo

Photoshop 5 should have an available DPI setting, I don't have photoshop at work at the moment so I can't tell you how to change it unless I'm looking at the program.
