Unhappy Headset Microphone

Hey there. My friend is trying to a record a message for me on his pc. He's using Windows XP, and a headset microphone. The headset is plugged into the headset jack on his pc. The speakers within it work, but the mic doesn't. It will not pick up sound in Sound Recorder or any other program (like Word etc).

Does it need to be plugged into a different location in order for both of them to work? Any help is appreciated.

does the headset have 2 plugs? if so, one needs to go into the SPEAKER - OUT jack and one needs to go into the MICROPHONE - IN jack.

Check your volume controls and make sure the mic volume isn't muted and is turned all the way up.

Yeh if it have 2 plugs they should go in either speakers/headphone and the other in microphone. Make sure there not muted, and what program are you using to record?

My friend said he tried that (it does have two plugs.) The volume is up and the sound is not muted. He was using "Sound Recorder" that comes with WinXP. He's had audio conversations via MSN as well, so... He tried downloading another recording program, and that didn't pick up sound either. Any other ideas?

Go to Control Panel > Sound & Audio Devices
Click on the Audio tab at the top, when on there click on volume under Sound Playback. The ONLY thing taht should be muted is the microphone.
Click the cross then on the audio tab (again) click on volume under sound recording. Make sure the Microphone is selected, then click the cross.
Click Apply and try again... Hope this helped...
