PC is doing strange things

Three days ago When I booted up my pc windows didn't come up. My monitor just kept flashing Acer. But after several attempts it came up. Next time I booted up it came up that windows could not start and was given the option to find the problem. It came up with Recovery could not fix the problem.
Programs keep hanging and (Not Responding) It has froze up a few times. I ran my anti-virus and it didn't find anything. I'm afraid if I shut it down it won't come back up. I went to the admin event log and it was full of errors. Here are a few of the repeating ones:

did you try restoring to a previously saved restore point prior to the problem.

Yes but there were no Restore dates not even the automatic store points. This error showed up many times in the Admin Events log" The scheduled restore point could not be created. Additional information: (0x80042308)

Here's something strange. When I was optimizing one of my external drives it got stuck on this folder named: G:\found.000\file0001.chk so I had it skip it. I'm running a full system scan and my anti-virus is stuck on the same file. And the folder is locked so I can't delete it.

how do you clear your browser cache?

I was on the phone with norton going through my pc used norton eraser and did full system
scan and I don't have a virus or malware. But when I went to boot up windows didn't start so I tried a couple more times and finally I got the windows failed to start up so I ran repair and it finally came up. Should I reinstall windows?

Howdy folks. kuzzz, your hard drive has problems.

When Windows first boots up, if it finds file system errors, it runs check disk to repair the system. This creates file copes stored in folders like this:

G:\found.000\file0001.chk

All those Registry errors suggest problems with the hive files (also part of the file system).

And "The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block." says your drive has problems.

So if you don't already have copies saved, offload copies of all the personal files you want to keep.


The drive may be repairable.

In the search box next to the Start button, type cmd

When cmd.exe shows at the top of the search display, right click it, and run it as admin. When the command window opens, type:

chkdsk /r

and hit Enter.

It should tell you the volume is in use, and allow you to opt to run check disk on reboot. Type Y and hit Enter, then restart the computer.

Check disk will run during reboot. If you watch it, you will see it return file fragments and other file system repairs. Because it is being run with the /r switch, it will also find bad sectors, move info from them, and mark them as bad so they won't be reused again.

After the reboot, use the computer for a while, including an extra reboot, then open the command window again (admin) and type:

chkdsk

and hit Enter.This time check disk will run without effecting any repairs. It will stop if cannot continue because it needs to make repairs, which suggests the file system is corrupt again, which shouldn't happen on an okay drive. If it finishes and finds no errors, you make be okay for now. Bit will want to run chkdsk often to be sure.

One other option that might be better than check disk is to use AOMEI Partition Assistant to run the disk check. It also uses check disk, but if I recall correctly, also gives a report. Check disk itself does provide a report of sorts on first reboot after running it, but it's not easy to find among the error logs, and even harder to make sense of.

AOMEI Partition Assistant also can be used to easily clone your drive, if the drive isn't too bad off. And it's free to use for home users.

will AOMEI Partition Assistant also fix errors or just report them? Or would I run it after chkdsk /r? I've just about got every thing I want off my C drive. Should I disconnect my external drives while I do this?

Aomei uses check disk, and fixes errors if you tell it to. No need to disconnect other drives.

Just curious as to how you made out with your hard drive problem, can you give an update as to whether or not Aomei Partition Assistant helped?

I didn't use that program I used chkdsk /r it took a few hours, it didn't report any bad clusters. I think my bad cluster may be on my g drive. It was running ok. Turned it off went to bed and tried to boot it up in the morning and I could hear windows starting up but the screen was still back. I tried several times with no success and so I finally got it to boot up with my windows disk after several attempts. I haven't shut it down again since. Afraid it won't come back up.
