Thanks for that I was confused ,it shows how lttle I know.I did a factory reset in desperation which has solved my internet connection problem but the connections are painfully slow,I would have thought that the reset would have speeded things up at the least.I have 64 gb free of 664 gb on the c drive disc

A factory reset probably set you months or years behind in updates. You should probably make sure Windows Update and your drivers are current.

I also did a factory reset which has worked fine for about four hours without ethernet conected but now I am back to square one ,it only connects with the ethernet cable.Now i am about two feet away from the router and have 664 gb spare on my drive.Since my last post wi fi has come back though unbelievably sllowly,sureley after factory reset it should be in perfecct condition.I read somewhere that the fans in a laptop may need cleaning ,is it practical to try this for an amatuer
