Dual boot
I am not going to fight this bloody OS. There are things I need to do that do not have updates yet so I was thinking this is the best option.
So, how do I make my 'puter dual boot - Windows 8 and Windows 7. Thank you in advance. |

If you have win 7 already installed, then just put the win 8 DVD in boot from it and choose custom install.
Install it either on a separate partition or on another drive. It will install and create a welcome screen where you select either Win 7 or Win 8. That's it. Now you must install Win 8 on a separate partition or drive. Do you have a 2nd partition or another drive available? |

dual boot
Murf, this computer came with Windows 8 loaded. It has a large hard drive - 2 TB that I am going to partition. My daughter has my Windows 7 disc - she is on the license. I have been thinking of loading it on my 'puter to a different partition. So, I will need to make that partition bootable, as well, right?
Thank you! Jill |

Normally you always install the earlier operating first. The Windows 7 boot loader is similar , but not the same as Windows 8 so;
1. Disable "Fast Boot" Make the following changes to the Windows 8 Power Options. a. Control Panel --> View by: Small Icons -->Power Options b. Select "Choose what the power button does" on left hand side. c. Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable". d. Uncheck "Turn on fast startup" under shutdown settings. e. Click on the ‘Save changes’ button. 2. I would make an image of Windows 8 just in case something goes wrong. There is a Free program to do this; http://www.todo-backup.com/products/...p-software.htm 3. Follow this Step-by-Step guided on installing Windows 7 |

Thanks, Murf. Life got in my way so I had not gotten back to you. My daughter is on the license for Windows 7 and she has not been able to find the disk so I have stuck to learning the new OS. I am still not impressed.

Oh, Murf, I will keep these instructions close so I will have them if/when I decide to dual boot.
Thank you! Thank you! |
