Unhappy Harddrives Failing

Ok here's the problem.

I have/had 2 SATA drives. One failed on me about 2 weeks ago (oh the annoyance), saying KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR on blue screen. I restarted, then I got UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.

At this point I was cursing repeatly.

Tried many things, swapping cables, swapping slots on motherboard but nothing.

I then put XP onto my other drive and try to run it but no, same thing, even with the new drive as channel 0 (I presume this is the master for SATA drives).

I try and run safe mode and it gets to the last file, I presume it loads it, and then freezes. (if I load Windows normally, goes through scrolly bit and freezes).

I take out the non existant disc and everything runs smooth.

Then the same thing happens to the 2nd drive. (2 errors, won't load). So, I know its not the harddrives that is the problem.

Its either Memory or Motherboard. I ran Memtest for 24 hours a few weeks before and nothing, I ran it for 8 hours at that point of the dying harddrives and nothing.

I presume its the mobo.

Also, when I try and install XP again, it gets to analysing the disk, and freezes.

So basically I now cannot access the 2 drives.

I don't know what to do this. I could buy a new motherboard for £50? Take it to a computer shop to see if it will work on their machines or what?

Because really, I don't know what the problem actually is (and before anyone posts the microsoft website for the 2 errors don't. I have been on them and tried their disganostics, I cannot run chkdsk as I cannot load Windows).

Thanks for any help,

Lokolo

However, error 0007 read/write thing from WD Diagnostic tool fixed 1 drive.
Cannot fix my Maxtor drive as the diagnostic tool does not work on VIA KT800 mobo's.

Still wouldn't mind knowing why the motherboard is screwing up my HDDs!
