I was wondering if you used that free program, because it helped me to partition a hard drive that I was having problems trying to partition through Windows.
Where do you stand now with that troublesome hard drive? |

We lost power here an hour ago. It took me about an hour using my windows disc to boot up on. But when I finally got it to boot up on the disk it was showing windows 7 on drive D instead of C. Then chkdsk came up and it found 4 bad cells. It's up and running now. Once it is up and running I have no problems.

First of all I want to say that I hope that you haven't been affected by those fires.
Are you hearing any clicking noises coming from your boot drive? |

I have friends that lived in Paradise, I'm an hour away. It's one of the saddest thing I've ever witnessed. I was in the Carr Fire in Redding. I was one of the lucky ones I still have my home.
No clicking sounds |

Sorry to hear about your friends. I'm glad to hear that your home wasn't affected in the previous fire. I was in California for three weeks years ago so I can understand why people want to live there.
Can you hear any clicking noises coming from the hard drive? |

no clicking from anything. When I power it up the 2 cdroms light up for a few seconds and then it usually starts booting up. But the last few times I booted up the 2 roms light up and then nothing just a black screen. I made a bootable disk in the control panel but it wouldn't boot up on that. I have it set up to boot from the cd-rom first boot

You might want to try shutting down the computer, and removing the power cord from the case. Ground yourself, and then try plugging the hard drive into a different port to see if that helps. You might even want to try a different cable.
It was noted previously that the hard drive has a bad block. Hopefully you have a clone or a disk image of that drive that you can use to be able to use that computer again if the above doesn't work. |
