8.1 preview serious problems

I was trying to install the 8.1 preview and it errored out on me. I didn't think it was going to be a problem because the next thing it said was that it was restoring my previous OS and everything appeared fine. But when I logged on, it loaded a temporary profile and I cannot get mine back. I have tried everything that I could find from microsoft.com to no avail. When I try to do a repair it asks for installation media that I don't have and can't get. I have tried downloading it and cannot find it for the life of me. I cannot create the installation media from inside windows because when I search for anything in the start menu, it crashes bringing the desktop back. HELP ME, I AM LOSING MY MIND!

that is one disadvantage of trying to install an incomplete version of win8.1 - It is full of bugs....

trying going into safemode and see if you can do a repair from there.

I can't do any repair or even a fresh install because I need the "Installation media" that I don't have.

did you do what I suggested??? sometimes you do not need the install media because it is a part of the restore partition that came with the computer when you originally purchased it. That is why I suggested it. You can do the repair from safemode or it is a selection when you started the restoring process. Unless the restore partition is gone, give it a try...

I did. The computer is my custom built tower. There is no recovery partition and I did try to repair from safe mode to no avail.

my only other suggestion is to find someone who has a copy and use it to try a repair. Otherwise you will have to purchase a legit copy which you should have had if you built your tower from scratch.

is your profile the only thing you are having problems with? if so, most likely it is corrupted and you will need to create a new one and try to move your files to it.

I was able to call MS support and they were able to resend my product information to me so I can download Win8 again. In the process of doing that right now and will keep everyone informed.

Renegade, my profile is not the only thing. If I search from the start menu, explorer.exe crashes and restarts. There are several issues that the Notification center is telling me I need to fix, but I can't.

I should be able to repair install later today, and I will let you know how it goes. Thanks.

Doing a Repair Install did not work, and reset install didn't work either. I had to do a fresh install. I am currently installing my programs again. Fortunately I had another partition with all my data and programs. Oh the joy of installing all my programs again.

I am not installing the 8.1 preview until it is released later this year. Hopefully free from these bugs.
