Windows cannot load certain security and other updates

I recently experienced an unmountable boot volume which I cured by reloading windows from the XP cd included with my Dell Inspiron 1501. After completion of the install Windows advised me that I should download and install Serivce Pack 3 which I did. After the reboot I was advised there were 8 more security updates to be downloaded. Several tries to download and install these updates have resulted in this message.

Security Update for Windows XP (KB951376)
Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB950760)
Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 (KB923689)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP (KB950759)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB950762)
Update for Windows XP (KB942763)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB951698)
Windows Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP

I even started the whole Windows install process a second time with the same result.

I ran AVG Version 7.5.524 and I found this in the quarentine.

Trojan Horse Clicker LMJ
C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\wrlzma.dll
Backup copy
Infected

I am unsure how to proceed. What about reinstalling Spy Sweeper from the MSN site? Please help!

thanks

See if this helps.. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

If that doesn't work download this small program & run the windows update repair part of it.. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...al-a-fix.shtml

it worked for windows update

Thanks for your quick reply. The Knowledge Base article lead me to the fix. IE7 was not completed on the first try but worked on the next attempt. Any suggestions on the Webroot issue?

Thanks again
