Exclamation PLEASE HELP!!! Problem with Emachine 220 after lightening strike

Hi, hope someone can help. We had a lightening storm here a couple of days ago. I just arrived home when the lights flickered because of the lightening strike. I was worried about my PC so I shut it down and unplugged it but did not disconnect the modem or turn off the moden. When I turned my PC on an hour later there I got this message and now thats all it shows. please can someone give me an idea as to what is wrong thanks!

hi

maybe you are lucky, and only the modem got scrambled.

could you open up the box (plug pulled out), get the modem out of that computer, and then try to power up the computer?

Hi Jaak,

No good! I have a modem router which connects to the pc via an ethernet cable. I have already taken out the ethernet card and the 56kbs modem. Still the pc comes on and all there is on the screen is that damn message. I know my way around a pc and its just so frustrating. I don't even know what the message means. I've looked everywhere on the web and found nothing. Thanks for the try though. Any other info or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Casman

well, it was a gamble.

what you see on screen is the videocard bios signal.
now, the videocard would not power up if the computer don't.

so, what I think you try next is getting into the BIOS of the motherboard, and look at options
it is probably set to HALT ON ALL ERRORS
make it, halt on NONE or on keyboard only.

look at the date too...
save, reboot

I have fixe the problem by unplugging my ethernet adapter, firewire, and modem from the motherboard. I now gt a message when I boot up that says "PCI Conflict. Press DEL to enter setup or F1 to load windows. When I press F1 windows loads with no problem but I do not ave an internet connection. I realised this would be the case because I took out my ethernet card. When I put it back windows picked it up as a docking station. Even though I have th driver disk for the ethernet adapter it will not find the ethernet card. I think this conflict thing is the problem but how the hell do I fix it!

Cheers

if that did not help, in BIOS,set plug and play OS to...

what it is not set to at the moment.

reset configuratiobn data to YES (this will always set itself back to NOafter reboot.l

This enablles a NVRAM refresh, and that NVRAM fresh setting is "maybe" what this bios says when I mean set reconfigur...

If the modem was fried and if it was hooked to the phone line it was, then the ethernet card is too. They aren't expensive, buy another one. You might get a modem from whoever your broadband is with free if you ask right.
