Reinstalling Without Previous Version

Recently I sold my old PC to my brother-in-law and gave him all the software. The PC, a PII 450MHz, with ME as the operating system is in good shape, but it now seems prudent to wipe the drive and begin again. However, neither of us can find the Win98 disk the ME install wants before continuing with the re-install. The problem seems to be that the ME was an upgrade from Win98, not a full-version CD.

Is there a way to get around this?

Will the old Win95 disk he has work? Will a downloaded boot disk work?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi fuzzbert_1999,
Windows 95 is a qualifying earlier version of Windows, so yes, if he has the install CD for WIN95 it should work for the upgrade compliance check during WINME setup.

Just to have it noted, you do NOT have to install the Windows95 to upgrade. I'll ask where it is at, simply put the disk in and tell it to look there.

Thanks guys and gals for the responses. I'll pass this on and let you know if it works out.
