emachine problem

Please help! confused:

eMachine T2542
2.50 GHz Intel Celeron processor
40GB HD
256 MB DDR

My friends emachine stop working. She did originally get an error message but does not remember it.
Now her eMachine T2542 computer will not start up. No Beeps, no LEDs, no response when the start up button was pressed. However, the PS fan runs when the power cord is plugged in but the CPU fan is not working. After a few seconds the onboard Intel MC 01 chip gets hot and the PS fan stops working.

Howdy and welcome to CTH:

Sounds like your PSU (power supply unit) has bit the big one !!

emachine problem......good subject.
Sounds like PSU but you can try a few things first.
Take all the power plugs off except the mobo power and fan (if separate power soource). Remove all cards. Now power up and see it it dies quickly as before.
If yes, probably PSU prob. If not, add video card, ram (if it was removed),
monitor and keyboard. Now boot and see if you get a POST and info on the screen. If yes, all is good. Start reinstalling things slowly and checking power up as you go along and, hopefully, find the culprit that's dragging down the power.
Get back with updates.
