Do Android devices really need any anti-virus app/program, since it is basically a Linux OS?

I wasn't sure if tablets need virus protection. I thought being on the internet it would be vonarible to viruses. So do I need it? I keep getting websites popping up . How do I stop this?

generally speaking, I do not believe you need an antivirus as long as you download your apps from the google play store. However, this is something you need to keep watch since malware is usually written for the most popular operating systems. the only one I have installed is lookout for my smart phones. I do not have any installed on my tablet.

as far as the popups you are getting, it could be from some app you installed. uninstall the most recent ones and see if it stops the popups.

also we really need to know what tablet you have.

Also remember that many websites do have pop ups added to them, They aren't necessarily bad/malicious, just very annoying. What websites are you having the problems with, and what browser are you using?

My browsers are Google and the other is Browser. They are not popups they are websites opening another page behind the site I'm on.even now they are behind this page I'm typing to you. They are always the same two they are WWW.VAndroidnews.com and WWW.KSZZ.com. The only popup I get is from Facebook even if I'm signed out it pops up.

I just tried those websites and don't have any pop ups here. I would suggest you looking for an Android forum that's related to your device, and seeing if others have the same problem.
