Privacy Settings

Win 98SE IE 6. About a week ago I started having a problem accessing certain sites. Did a little looking around and discovered the Privacy Settings in Internet Options had changed. I use the "advanced" settings which overrides automatic cookie handling and radio button is set to accept first party cookies and prompt on third party cookies. Every time I boot up now, this setting is changed to remove the check mark at "Overide Automatic Cookie Handling"and the radio button under first party cookies is changed to "prompt"

I use a program called "Cookie Pal" but have used it for at least two years and am "reasonably sure" it is not causing the problem.
I have downloaded Cookie Pal's latest updates.

I have made no changes in hardware or software in this time frame.

I haven't a clue as to what is causing this and it is driving me nuts (a short drive I admit). Any ideas anyone?

Hi RickyD2 - It might help if we can see what running when you access the Internet.

Go here and download and run a scan with Hijack This. Dont make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Hi RickyD2 - Close IE and run Hijack This again but this time, select the below entries and click on Fix Selected. Reboot afterwards. You will have to reset your Home Page again.

When you have rebooted, download Spybot from the above link. After installing, launch Spybot from the Desktop Icon (Easy Mode) and click on the Search For Updates button, search for and install all updates.

Now click on the Check for Problems button and the scan will start. Any Red entries indicate spyware problems that should be fixed to avoid security and/or privacy problems. This is the only kind of problem that is preselected to be fixed. If, after running the scan, Spybot displays red entries, click on the Fix Selected Problems button.

Now click on the Immunize button to protect your PC from known pests and exit.

If you have chosen to install an icon in your Quick Launch bar, Spybot will launch in Advanced Mode. I do not recommend this option for first time users of Spybot.

NOTE: SSD will sometimes not be able to remove all active components in the first 'run'. In that case you will get a dialog asking you to run SSD at next start. Click yes and reboot.
SSD will activate before the system puts these components 'in use', and it will then be able to 'fix' the rest.

I did as suggested and have uninstalled Weatherbug
I think that was only part of the problem. Another part, I suspect is the manner in which I use "Cookie Pal ". I like this software because it does a better job of behind the scenes cookie control than does IE. I have found that if I open Cookie Pal before I open the first IE window, the cookie handling in Internet Options is changed. I'll handle with www.kburra.com to see what they say, although your input in this would certainly be appreciated.

Hi RickyD2 - I am not familiar with Cookie Pal so I really cannot comment. I would be interested to know what the vendors say though. It would be very much appreciated if you would post back and update us when you get a reply.
