What was your old card?

An ATI Radeon 9600 it is about 5 years old. I do Auto Sim Racing and with some of the Modern sims my frame rate was ok but not great so I bought the new card upgraded the memory and bought a new case with a better power supply the fan works on the new card but I guess not the card because the Monitor wont come on replaced the old card again and no problems. it is an AGP slot.

Does the PC beep at all with the new card in?
Have you tried resetting the CMOS when you place the new card in? |

Resetting the CMOS you don't need the monitor. It's done by either removing the CMOS battery or moving a jumper on to other pins on the Clr cmos or Clear RTC pins. It's easier sometimes just to remove the battery for about 30 minutes, then putting it back in place. The battery looks like a large nickel.

Do I remove the battery for 30 minutes then put the vid card in or put the vid card in while the battery is out.

Take the old card out, put the new one in, then clear the cmos by removing the battery, replace it, then when the computer boots up you should see something on the monitor.

No! made no difference maybe its a bad card . Could it have anything to do with the AGP slot although my older 7600 works fine. Unfortunatly I dont have any other puter to check it on

Where did you get the Sapphire? Is it new or was it bought used? If used, it could be just a bad card. Well, actually, even new ones go bad.

I'd send it back. Sounds like it's a bad one, and like I said, even new can be bad right out of the box.
I checked at HP to see if your AGP was 4x or 8x, though it usually doesn't matter because 8x are backward compitable with 4x, this might also be the case in point with your motherboard. It only has a 4x slot. And that card isn't 4x/8x, it's only 8x. |

I took it to a puter shop in the next town and they said it was Dead so if I get this right if my motherboard is 4x does that mean that the Vid Card I need has to be 4x/8x/ and that 8x would not work??

No, even an 8x card should work. There has been times when they weren't backward compatible but it is a rare occurence. So the shop confirmed what I already told you.
