Reboot and when the first screen comes up start tapping the DEL key (or whatever key the screen tells you to use) to get into SETUP

Once in SETUP you will be presented with several menu items, each are somewhat different depending on the computer itself. You will not have a mouse so using the keyboard you need to go thru the menu's until you find the one that would set the processor speed.

Generally, this is located under a heading of something like "Performance" could say Frequency/Voltage control, Front Side Bus.. When you find it set it to AUTO. Now find where you can SAVE & EXIT (the screen tells you what key(s).)

That should fix it. It has nothing do do with XP at all.

If you cannot find it, then if this is a name brand computer post the make and model and we can help find it.

From 994MHz to 2GHz is quite a jump, better make sure that speed is what you're processor is rated for...

What is the model # of your computer?

If you have a dual core processor, Windows will only show the clock speed of one of the cores.
