Can't delete
I have a file that won't let me delete it. It was a picture sent to me through skype that I could not open and so I deleted it but apparently part of the file was left behind and now when I try to delete it, I get the message that the file cannot be found, try again. The name of the file lp.aspx. Is there a trick to getting rid of this file on my desktop. I tried changing the file extension but that didn't work.
Thank you kuzzz |

Try it in SAFE MODE.

If Safe Mode does not allow you to delete the file, try MoveOnBoot. It lets you tag stubborn files (or folders) for deletion early during the next boot cycle [hopefully] before the operating system or any application can set hooks in it, thus allow it to be deleted.

You will need to know where the file is at. If on your desktop then:
1. Start | Search 2. Type in cmd 3. Above will see cmd, right click and Run as Administrator it should bring you to: C:\Windows\System32 with a flashing cursor 4. Now type the following hitting <enter> Del /F /Q /A C:\users\ (your name of the user folder example-Kuzzz)\Desktop\lp.aspx Hit <enter> What this means is; Del = Delete /F = force deleting /Q = quiet mode, which does not prompt and confirmations /A= allows file attributes (ex: hidden files, read only files, etc to be deleted) C: (drive) followed by the user directory, username, location and file name |

Of course, if the OS sinks hooks in the file, you still will not be able to remove it, even from the command prompt.
Note if you enter from the command prompt del /? you will see the /f switch forces a delete for "Read Only" files. It does not force a delete of opened files (the likely problem here). Worth a try if you are comfortable using the command prompt, just don't expect miracles. In any case, if you decide to use the command prompt, boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt for your best chance of success. |

just a side note since there are already some good valid suggestions, when I cannot delete something, I just boot to a linux live cd and delete it :-)

Yep, that usually works too - if you have Linux disk laying around.
