Question How to get my audio working after I reformat my computer? (See Details)

I recently reformatted my PC and was installing all the necessary drivers and updates but can't figure out how to get my audio working. It says under sounds and devices that theres no audio device. So I looked up my motherboard and it says my Audio Chipset is AC '97 CODEC So I downloaded the Realtek drivers for that chipset and it still isn't working and is still saying theres no audio device.

What should I try?

Did you download the drivers from the motherboard's website specifically for your motherboard's model number?

ok, press the Winkey+ Pause-Break key, if you cannot do that bring up Run command window and type in > devmgmt.msc < then click on the "Hardware" tab, then Device Manager tab, scroll down to "Sound game video controllers, look for the "Realtec AC'97 Audio" righ click it and Uninstall it, restart your computer.

Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices

check the bios and make sure the onboard sound is not disabled or if it says the audio device is set to Automatic, reset you bios to its Optimized Defaults and restart the computer, it should then detect the audio hardware and install the drivers!

Like Jj4CL posted, you should be able to download the drivers you need from the motherboard manufacturer's website. In order to do that, you need to know the make and model of the motherboard. If you don't already know what those are, it should be printed on the motherboard somewhere

I had a similar problem to this on a laptop that I was repairing. The laptop had some sort of High Definition sound on it that I hadn't come across before. I had to download a microsoft HD sound driver and install it and then install the hardware driver after that and then it all worked perfectly. I can't remember the name of the microsoft driver at the moment but I'll try to remember to look it up
