PC sticks for 8 to 10 seconds

PC sticks for 5-6 seconds...mouse freezes...everything stops...I have checked Device manager and there are no excalmation marks...Any suggestions or ideas on what this may be or what to look for?
Thanks in advance,

Look in the Start Menu for the Startup folder. If there are shortcuts there to programs you don't have to have loading on startup, delete them.

If Find Fast is there, delete it for sure since it's often the source of the freeze problem you're having. It's an indexing utitlity that's supposed to review everything on the hard drive and get it all indexed. It's also supposed to do that when the system is idle. All it really does is kick in whenever it wants to and brings everything to a halt for a few seconds.
