Disc cleanup

Hi,
I am getting a balloon telling me that I am really low on disc space and that I need to do a defrag. when I click on the balloon or go to the control panel it, it starts but never finishes the analysis. and I can't seem to get past that...I have read all the sticky stuff, and have been unable to work thru the startup stuff, due to inability to read and apparently comprehend.

May be you have very low space left on disc so you can not past the analysis. My suggestion is first delete IE temp files, second delete windows temp files. Then you can install cclean, use it to delete waste files. This should work, please have a try.

1 IE - "tools" - "Internet options" - delete temp files, select all and deleted them.
2 open c:\windows\temp(in most case), then delete all files in it. If some files can not be deleted, let them go and delete others.

That's all right. You should try to use some professional tools such as cclean , I think it's free and powerful. The second thing is that do not installed program into disk C.

http://www.ccleaner.com/
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!

To get Disk Cleanup to finish analyzing so it can actually clean up, go to Kelly's Korner, scroll down to line 48 and in the right-hand column, click on "Disk Cleanup/All tmp-Compress Old Files Freezes" to download a small .reg file.

After you have the file saved to the hard drive, run it according to the instructions at the top of the Kelly's Korner page.

If your antivirus software objects, ignore it. The files from Kelly's Korner are safe.

I routinely disable the "Compress Old Files" feature of Disk Cleanup. I think it doesn't save enough space to be worth the time it takes for Disk Cleanup to figure it out.

Just to get a little more info.. Double click on "My Computer" in the window that comes up, right click on "C Drive go to Properties" and it will tell you how much free space you have & how much is used on the disk.. Post that info back here..

It looks like you may be a little low on C Drive to do a defrag. You should have 15 to 20% free space and you're close. I see you have 18GB free on D. Do you have any files on C that you can move to D. Like pictures, music or other programs that's not in the windows folder? Look in My Documents, old downloads & other things like to go there.. If you can free up a little more space on C & it still won't defrag you may have other problems..
