File saving problem

Ok, here is the problem.
(This happens with any program I use from Flash to Word.)

If I am working on a file and I save it, multiple times even, and then while still having it open either the software or OS crashes, when I open the file the next time all those saves I made are lost. So what I end up doing , in order to make sure the progress I have made is saved, is closing the file and then reopening it.

Hi robybob - could you run regedit (Start > Run and type regedit then click on OK) and tell us what values are assigned to the below key (and the value data)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer

I see that autorun has been disabled robybob but that doesnt help with your immediate problem.

I guess you have checked your file permissions although it wouldnt account for the crashes.

It might be a good idea if we had a look at what is running on your PC. Go here and download and run a scan with Hijack This. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Actually, the crashing isn't the 'problem', lol.

This is what I got from Hijackthis:

Hi robybob - I cannot see any one program that is obviously causing your problem but you do have a lot of unneccesary startups (O4's and Global Startups in the log). Try disabling some using msconfig and see if that helps. Have a look here for help in deciding which startups can be safely disabled.
