Linux Mint 17.3 from Windows 10?
Hello everyone! I read an article on ZDNet about Linux Mint 17.3 being a good desktop OS. So I thought... should I convert our old Dell Dimension 9200 running on Windows 10 to Linux Mint 17.3? My 6-year old use it to browse the internet and do web-based education stuff like Khan Academy and XtraMath. The video is not so smooth on it anymore though. Will I benefit from the switch? Will her wireless mini keyboard still work on it? Can we still watch YouTube and Netflix on it?
Thanks! |

before installing, you should run it from dvd or usb. may be a bit slower but at least you can get a feel of it and see if you like it and if it will work with the web based educations stuff.
you should have no problem with youtube but you will have to run netflix from the chrome browser. You can run it from firefox but you will have to do some modification and may break with updates. With chrome it will work "out of the box" you should be able to use the keyboard but then again, as I said in the first paragraph, best run linux from dvd or usb to make sure everything works properly before installing. You do not want to mess up your current install if linux does not work. |
