Linux Mint Cinnamon

Until recently I was running Cinnamon 16 64 bit on my acer-Aspire-V5 in dual-boot with win7.
A couple of days ago the taskbar stopped working. It appeared on-screen but did not respond to a curser-click.
It was there to look at, but it seemed dead.

I tried to replace it with OpenSUSE 13.1 64 bit, but although it installed it froze during first boot when it got to 11% system setup.
I installed it twice and got the same result.

So I went back to Cinnamon.

I started with v13 32 bit. It booted to trial but had BIG problems with the video drivers.

I tried to v13 64 bit. It booted to trial, but without a taskbar.
I installed it anyway.
It installed fine, but no taskbar along the bottom.
I tried installing v14, v15, and v16.
It installed all of them without a taskbar along the bottom. Just 'Home' & 'Computer' on screen icons.

Does anybody have any idea what has gone wrong please?

My Ubuntu 12.04 upgraded to 14.04 goes good

My Mint12 that relates back to Ubuntu goes good

Other wise i couldnt imagine what your problem is graphics maybe since Mint went there own way

if you are sure it is not a screen size issue, try right click desktop, click on add panel, click on default.

If I right click on the desktop. I only get:-

Create New Folder
Create New Document
Open in Terminal
Organize Desktop by Name
Keep aligned
Paste
Change Desktop Background

I only get 'Create New Panel' if I right click on a visible Taskbar.

My problem is that there is no visible Taskbar.

I am typing this using Zorin 6.4 (Working fine) If I can handle the differences.

My Mint12 LTS, 32bit & 64bit install, but it has decided to work terrible with my video card.
If it was a photo I would say that it was full of scratches and noise.
I have to go on my previous distro install memory during install, because I cant read any of the instructions.

I have tried several Ubuntu based distros.
Lubuntu13.10, & 14.04 (They installed and worked but I don't like desktop)
Kubuntu12.04.4 (It installed and worked but I don't like the desktop)
Ubuntu 14.04 (It installed and worked but I don't like the desktop)

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS ( Terrible video)
Mint Mate 13 (Terrible video)

This acer laptop came to me from the shop (12 months ago) with win8 installed. I burned it out and installed win7.

I would have thrown windows away ages ago but I need it for DesignCAD and Photoshop cs6. I use them both a lot.
Unfortunately 'Libre Office Draw' doesn't match DesignCad and although I still happily use Gimp. The more I learn about cs6, the more it seems capable of.

I find it strange that Win7 still installs and runs fine, while I am having
trouble with "some" linux.

So I suppose I will study Zorin for a while. Unless some-one can come up with a better idea.

i like Ubuntu 14.04 cause i can view videos on all sites I have visited so far so thats handy Mint12 does too.

my Debian saw the webcam as black and white and buttons dont work.

Ubuntu sees webcam as color and the button for taking pics works that handy for taking screenshots out of videos and taking pics my scooter bits to post online makes it suits me

I just upgraded to zorin8. On my laptop it is very unstable. So, I removed it.

Just for the hell of it. I did a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04.
I still don't like the desktop.
On my 12 inch screen there are too many default icons on 'left side' taskbar. So I must scroll to find them.
I still cant work out how to move it to 'horizontal bottom/top', and there seem to be too many leads into spending money to Ubuntu.
So I wiped it.

I tried a few others (even PCLinux) without any 'happy' success.

Then just for the hell of it. I retried installing Cinnammon 16.
Wonder of wonders, it installed perfectly!!!!!!!!!

I am guessing that all the re-burns and different distros installed, removed whatever the problem was.

So, unless it goes wrong again, I will stay with Cinnammon 16, at least until Connammon 17 (LTS) is released in May.

It is a long time since I used a seperate camera, but, all of my laptop (built-in) cameras have been color capable.

Has Ubuntu added a single-click ability to take a screen-shot?
In Mint I pause the video, then go to Accessories>screenshot.

The only annoying thing I have. Is with putting my photo's on emails.

Most of my photo's are about 1mb or more after I play with them.
Although it is not difficult, Having to go back to Gimp and resize for email sharing to about 300kb is annoying,
Then after sending them, I then delete the little copies.

'Shutter' looks interesting.
It is in 'Software Manager' too.
So I have installed it to compare with the default 'Accessories>screenshot'.
I shall play with it for a few days and decide (for my needs) how they compare in "Ease of use" and "Ability"
