Share_installed programs-winXP-win2k
hello over there,
I want some help if at all it possible:- I have a dual booting system win2k and winXP;is there a way to use the installed programs on win2k in winXP? Thank you for any contribution Last edited by yahoo; June 21st, 2003 at 11:26 PM. |

Yeah you can but remember that if the program makes registry keys these will be in the operationg system you ran the installer from. If its an older program (one that works on windows 3.XX or early windows 95 systems) it may only use INI files for settings. Also remember any files put into the windows directory or system (or system 32) will be on the operating system you ran the install from.
SO in short yes but it can be very very tricky and usually is not worth the trouble. |

I find that the best way to share programs between two operating systems is to have one (or more) logical partitions strictly for data, including applications. Install an application via WIN2K or WINXP but point the program path to a data partition instead of the OS drive, then create a shortcut to the executable in both OSes.

If doing that doesnot work because of registry information:
Either export the registry values for the program to the other OS or run the install to the same path on both OSes |
