Changing operating system boot order
I've already posted here but after just checking my pc i actualy think its the Linux boot screen and not XP. I noticed the word Grub and all the default options are the Ubuntu operating system.
Is there a way I could change the order so that XP is the first option. |

Yes, ubuntu uses GRUB (GRand Unified Bootloader). Boot up ubuntu, and open a terminal. cd to /boot/grub. 'ls' should show a file called 'menu.lst'. This is the standard grub configuration file.
There is a grub configuration faq here you might find useful. |

that link doesn't work. The prob im having is editing the menu.lst file. It's read only and i cant change that in properties because it says the owner is "root" ???????
Or is there a way of opening it using the terminal so that you can edit it? |

after you cd to /boot/grub, type 'sudo gedit menu.lst', without the quotations.
Then enter your password and you should be able to edit the file. Replace gedit with whatever text editor you use. |
