can I erase this?

I have reinstalled windows for the 3th or 4th time and I am in the process of reinstalling all my programs, I have a question:

can I erase the directories the programs previously installed in the old version of windows?

I have installed my windows under the partition D: , so can I just go and erase all the folders of the utilities of my previously installed windows in C: ?
There is the old folder of windows, C: which is 1GB.... can I totally erase it considering that my current windows it is installed in D:?

Considering that the only working version of windows is this present one in D: I assume that the boot information is only in this D: right?
So I can erase the old C: version of XP without being afraid of erasing any boot information right?

thanks!

Yes you can delete the old folders.
Why have you done so many reinstalls and by this do you mean you installed
over the top? That is not what you do with XP and could be why you are having so many problems.
XP has a repair:

Control Panel, Auto Updates ...turn off but you should do these even if manually weekly.
