Lost boot record

I'm trying to fix one of the family computers. the machine was refusing to admit it has a C DRIVE. I formatted the drive in order to install WinXP Pro, but the proggie would not install....again the computer seemed to think there was no C drive, or indeed any hard drive at all.
I used HDD Regenerator and found a great many bad clusters, which were then fixed.
Meanwhile using ERD Commander I discovered that the boot record was lost.
Can anyone tell me what I can do about that? It cannot be found on the formatted drive.
Cheers and thanks.

You should post this in the XP or hardware forums to increase your chances of getting help. The first thing I would try is type "fdisk /MBR" from DOS to repair the master boot record.
