I don't know of anywhere you can download it legally (a legit copy). Using a search engine, you should find a zillion places to buy a legal copy (likely under 50 bucks or so) of 98SE.

The Windows 98 OS, will work fine as long as users keep there anti-virus/malware filters updated. Also, if they stop using Internet Explorer and switch to a more secure browser -like Mozzilla. M$ support for Windows 98 is ending, but it states that there support pages will still be online till July 2007.

I still use 98 on my second pc, which is networked with my xp pro. 98 served me for years. I learnt on 98, and am now relatively good at this computer thing. I would never once slate 98. My only reason for using XP is how pretty much all new software is 2k and above! Ending support, in my opinion, is a terrible idea. For a small company that hasen't spoke the name of their product for years would be understandable, but for MS, who are large, rich, and with 98 being one of the most widely used versions, why shoud spport end. It's like saying "thanks for buying 98 but upgrade to be safe". Why only provide security updates for the newer? Because they're the £100+ versions, whereas 98OEM can be found ligit for a tenner!

Never stop helping valued customers... all it says to me is that we aren't valued!

Most annoying: My 98 PC is 166MHz Pentium MMX, 48MB RAM. Almost pointless to upgrade, and would have to in order to get 2k on there!

I'm running 98 on the PC in question with 166! I'm pretty sure you couldn't run 03 on 166, maybe 1.66 GHz is what they meant!

Howdy and welcome to CTH:

Looks like you just did. Just pick the forum that best suits your problem (don't post the same question more than once) and do just what you did here.

If you still have a problem start a new thread, this thread is not for posting problems. That is why no one answered.

Official support for 98/ME may be done, but unofficial support is available.
Need updates, official or otherwise? See http://www.mdgx.com/.
Looking for patches against the lastest exploits? they often can be found at http://zert.isotf.org/

Many vendors are removing everything 98/ME related from their sites. Visit your vendors site and get copies of everything there that's for 98/ME, especially drivers, even if you don't need it. Someone else will. When properly configured, 98 is a very stable and reliable OS, too good to let die just because a corporate giant isn't profiting from it.
