file transfer

hi,
when i send my brother in law a file on msn messenger he receives the message shown below,he has checked his hard drive and that shows 8.2GB used and 66.3GB used,operating system is xp home,anyone any ideas why this happens ?

File transfer was unsuccessful. You are out of disk space. Try deleting some files and have the sender repeat the transfer.

I am using version 7.5
think my brother in law is on an older version
would this be the problem ?

I am not really sure halesy but it might be worthwhile asking him to update his version and see if the problem goes away.
