For those using Firefox on a broadband connection, I just came across the directions below for a couple of speed-enhancing tweaks. I think resetting for pipelining with multiple requests might be a real help for my group searches that go to several websites at once:

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed up Firefox:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

* network.http.pipelining
* network.http.proxy.pipelining
* network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

* Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
* Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
* Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30.

This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

I don't suppose you would happen to know if Firefox has a backup facility hidden away somewhere? I'm wanting to do a clean re-install at some point in the future (so I can make a good full-system copy to 'Paragon Drive Backup' for future installs), and it would be handy to be able to save all the settings, plugins and bookmarks somewhere to save a load of time ...

You can do it manually by backing up the Firefox folder in Program Files and any Profile folder from the users Applications Data folder.

download the extension the i use which is chrome edit
then go to the site that hypnotizeminds link then copy the configurations there are many choices for firefox tweaks then paste it on the user.js tab surely will help for the speed up of firefox!

How To

There is a small extension that will perform those pipelining functions for you. Tweak Network. 2 settings with it, default and power user, pretty good.

OK, i figured there's probably alot of people who are having problems with their FF being slow.. these 8 tweaks will help to make your Fox fly.

(I've used these tweaks for the past 10 weeks and no problems whatso ever)

So lets get started.

Open Firefox and in the address bar type: about:config this will open hidden options.

underneath the address bar there is another bar that you can start typing in the names, and it will shorten the list accordingly.
so.

1. Find browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs and double click on it so it = true
2. Find network.http.pipelining and double click on it so it = true
3. Find network.http.pipelining.maxrequests set from 4 to 100
4. Find network.http.max-connections and set to 48
5. Find network.http.max-connections-per-server and set to 24
6. Find network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy and set to 12
7. Find network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server and set to 6
8. Find network.http.proxy.pipelining and double click on it so it = true

after finishing those 8 tweaks, close FF, reopen, and go to any page, it should pretty much Dump the whole page at once. however if the server itself is slow, it will slowdown, but not as slow as before
