Editing DVD'S

I have 2 discs. One with 1 10 min section I want; the other has 3 sections I want. I want to put section 1 from disc 1 and section 1 from disc 2 and then section 1 from disc 1 and section 2 from disc 2 and then section 1 with section 3 from disc 2; so I have 3 discs. ( well I know what I mean )
Both are old and have no security tabs so are editable.
I also have a recordable dvd player and 3 other dvd players ( funny how these things just build up. the cheaper they become the more you get, they end up as unwanted gifts and freebies with other things you buy ) so I can do it the hard way and record the sections in real time swapping discs and kicking it when it doesn't start etc or is there a very simple editing program that I can use to edit them by putting them on the comp and choosing the sections required? Bear in mind it has to be able to be understood by my dog so she can show me
