Acpi

I am attempting to install Linux on a slave drive. When I put in the Knopax CD and click install everything goes blank. An article said I had to enable ACPI but I did not see that in my BIOS set up utility.

My BIOS is an AMI version 7.0 (4/2/2001). Is the ACPI some place on the system or do I have to down load it or update my BIOS?

It should be a feature within the Power Management settings area within the BIOS. Be advised, if it not enabled, enabling it may cause issues within Windows.

That's not to say it will, but if it's disabled and you enable it, then at the very least Windows should pick up a bunch of new hardware at the next boot. The problem is that this is hardware that should be present during the initial install of Windows and could cause an issue if Windows installs it later.

How old is the motherboard or computer that your installing this on?

The mother board is about six to eight years old.

When the computer first boots, with the knoppix cd in the drive, you should see a prompt. At this prompt, type: "knoppix acpi=off".

Post back here and let us know if that changes anything.

Got the knoppix CD to boot and load. It took a full three minutes to load. Thanks
