Unhappy Cd/rom drive error ?

Dell Inspiron 1150 using Win XP Home SP3.
The cd/rom drive wont read any discs [Error Code 39] so i used Device Manager found the drive which had the yellow marker, to uninstall then reinstall but made no difference. Then ran Dell pc check but this reported all ok although i could not see any reference to a cd/rom drive. Then downloaded a new driver but when installing i got an error message "No matched drive detected. This utility is for slimline combo SOSC-248k drive". The drive listed in Device Manager for my laptop was a SONY CRX830E and i downloaded the driver for this model but got the above message. I am now confused and would welcome any help in sorting this out.

On the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall. Follow the instructions.

Restart your computer.

Open Device Manager, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware
changes. Follow the instructions.

Thanks for your help. Problem now solved.phew!!! You guys on here are just great.
OK now for one last problem I'm having. I have an Epson Stylus X200 all-in -one printer that i need to uninstall but when i tried this via Add or Remove programs it would not uninstall. Why is this? Do i need the printer connected to the laptop when uninstalling or is there any other way to get this off my machine?
