certain tasks hanging

Perhaps I can get some help on this. My new rig is:
Intel Pentium 4 630 3.2
Asus P5GPL-X
1 gig ram
XP Pro

Too often for me my PC will hang when I.m using certain programs like Nero especially. With Deep Burner it doesn't do it.
I never thought this would happen on this build considering the specs
Could it be because I have too many background programs running or I have too many browser windows open ? Really is maddening especially since I always lose my work. Also it's usually hell to get Task Manager to open when this happens.

Any help much appreciated.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling Nero. If you are attempting to burn a DVD and you have too many background programs or processes running, you most likely will find that your computer hangs. Windows has a poor memory management system. You almost are always using your slower, poorer virtual memory. That means it attempts to use your hard drive in place of RAM. You may want to consider more RAM if you want to spend the money.
