is the battery oem and/or specifically for your laptop model? Once charged and using battery are you having to charge more often? it could be the wrong battery and sending too much juice through while charging. This will eventually burn up your laptop.

it is not OEM. but it is 10.8volts. 4400mah. the HP battery check under F2 key says battery is good and it passed. i did the hard reset and did nothing that i can see.

It really sounds like renegade600 suggest, the battery is wrong or bad. Since it didn't do it with the old battery, maybe the battery you got is sending too much juice, thus causing the speedup. If it runs normally with just the charger and only does it with the new battery, then one would suspect the battery is the problem. What is the model of the HP?

So if you take the battery out and just use the AC Charger, does it do the same thing? Could be the charger itself. The charger should be:
18.5V 3.5 amp 65watt |

Then it has to be the battery. The battery works OK by itself, charger runs OK without the battery, only when you have the battery in and the AC Charger there is a problem.
The HP site list the following battery: 6 cell: WD548AA#ABB which is a 5000mAH 9 cell: WD549AA#BB which is a 7800mAH As yours they are 10.8V but yours is a 4400mah mAH stands for Milliamp Hour, simply the amount of energy the battery can hold, the higher the number the longer it will hold a charge. But what is important is the voltage. Is your AC Adaptor 18.5V 3.5 amp 65watt ?? |

What is your power setting. If may or may not be set to high performance mode in Windows 7. When I have the option on I get the same experience you describe.

Yes you are correct. that is what caused the problem. Thanks for your help.
