hi guys

this is still a technical board
we'd rather see OD used for open discussions on technical matters.

Politics, sex, religion, flamewars, mod-bashing, forum bashing, and clique forming is something we'd rather see gone.

I would like it if I never have to call somebody an idjut because... well, because.

I see it brewing...

the description of this forum says...

maybe because?

"OD" talk about anything
"Anything Else" talk any tech stuff

It's how mishY set it up, for talking about anything.
People are sociable, they need to talk.
If you don't want people to talk, chill and have fun, remove OD but you will loose loads of members.
Yes OD does see all the bannings but, it's there own fault, the people that have been banned through OD would of probity left anyway if OD had been removed.

Referring to anyone in particular?
Why does this have to be an issue every time?
JT, you're a mod and if you want the rules to change, then by all means,
change them. Until the rules can be changed, quit stabbing the messenger.
Don't get involved in something you don't like. Just Say No!!!
If you want to contribute, do so. Is it just too simple to understand?

How about including "Post Bashing"?
When you say "we'd rather see it gone", exactly who is 'WE'? A majority?
When 'we' start OD on just the topics 'you' want to discuss, I'll go along.
Until then, I wish some could refrain from flaming my donkey.

I think a very important point is being missed here.... most of the users of CTH open discussion are Subscribers.

(I have a problem with paypal at the moment it wont let me into my account so excluding me)
They have made a contribution to the upkeep of this website by supporting Mishys hard work.

How many posters who come here for a problem subscribe and then disappear.. never to be heard of again
.Not many i suspect.
They want an answer and then move on without so much as a thank you sometimes..

I know of at least 3 members who have stuck around in CTH because of the friendly welcome they have had.from members and Moderators alike.

Friendly forum with expert help and maybe a laugh to see you on your way.
"How did you fix your PC ". i went to CTH they are so friendly.. and word of mouth spreads.....hence more members and more subscriptions

Take away the community spirit this forum has and it will fade into the background along others too technical for newbies to use or understand...

and what will happen when the subscriptions dry up. will Mishy be forced to turn it into a site like expert exchange.Yes we will help but it is going to cost you money first.
I don't want to see that happen here. i like CTH and i like and respect everyone here no exceptions.

I have been on other forums where the advice has been too technical sometimes with no humour or human touch and no where else have i found such a great bunch of characters
. So we disagree from time to time members and mods but thats just human nature...

I 100% agree with Black Mirror!!
I really can't see why Nick was banned.
Was it because he had an oppinion?
*gosh* We can't be having them now can we.....

BM's right 99% of the people using OD are subscribers, they are paying.
We can easly go and pay some other forum, I know most members on here have had to join other forums, I have I to go and join other forums to talk about vista being as we cannot do it here, I like this forum, it has helped me with hundreads of problems.
But EVERYONE likes a laugh!!!!!

As Cyber Tech Help grows, so do the server bills I'm afraid. We want to keep the CTH Support Forums Ad-Free! but because CTH is a non-profit website, all the bills have to be paid by someone out of their own pocket. Help keep CTH free and fast!
Please don't confuse the means of the Subscriber service. It does not give any special rights or permissions on what the member can post or that they will recieve preferential treatment. It is there because the bills need paying and the member feels that forum deserved a donation.

Sorry that was not what i meant Degsy
.... members subscribe because they like and want to support the forum and want to help Mishy.

I didnt mean to imply we EXPECT to be treated any differently from anyone else. That was not the point i was trying to make.

Yes, but there are a lot of subscribers who regularly contribute in Open Discussion and black mirror and dudeking are trying to say that if all of them leave and/or are banned, MishY would be paying a lot more out of his own pockets than he already generously does.

Could there be a change in the wording on the description for OD, or an announcement, something with the guidelines for posting in OD? I think that some guidelines to follow could help lessen the type of posts that often get closed and ensure that less people get banned.

All she was saying was that paying members are giving you some money.
The paying member are the ones who use OD the most, get rid of OD, loose the paying member, your bills become bigger and you become like experts exchange.
Which is possibly the site I hate the most on the whole of the internet.....

There is nothing worse than searching for a solution to a problem and finding someone who has the exact same one clicking on the link and you get that site
