I haven't yet seen a ban that had no valid reason.
You have now.
The wrongs were righted and the people for or against what I do can be delighted or saddened.

also FWIW, even when I did not ban Nick, I knew there was one in the making. No, I am not alone when I think the OD should have some restrictions about what can be discussed freely.
Most, if not all, moderators have seen how quickly Pol/Soc and religion can get out of hand, and each time we waste time on this, we waste time.

When I say we rather not see these types of discussions, we is indeed a WE.
the rule is not said to be a rule in the OD forum, but just look at the implications of the quote that will follow.
Can we allow such content on CTH when we have such a policy?
You see, actually, we won't allow CTH to be asocciated with sites that...

so, now that you know I did not want to single out NICK (albeit that looks like it when one posts in a topic so early) the comment was directed at all that will read it.

And I see some good thoughts (as before, and as always).
Hmmm, maybe I hijacked his topic.

I am often misunderstood, and maybe we should have a change in some of the sub-forum rules.
Just never forget the main rules, they are in the TOS any member is supposed to have read.. Posts in a sub-forum must still follow the main rules.

Jaak,
As always you are the the quiet fair and genteel man of the hour, as is Murf who has also contributed to these issues recently, and it im my sincere hope, you in no way thought either of you were included in any of the negativity displayed here as that would be unjustified.
Being a MOd is at times difficult, and other times more difficult, we all know that and in your capable hands I would never question any decisions...
There is an element here, and you see it as we do, you have to, that would
strain the very existance of free internet forums to describe as just, and they are taking over as the "nice" guys lay back so as not to create waves.
There are so many good reliable techies and experienced users who have virtually deserted these pages with issues of unfair treatment, and normally those posts are deleted with no mention. I know as many of them have come to my forum to enjoy the freedom of expression they once had here.
I have more than just tech on my site as many other new forums do, because as you say there is a need for freedom of expression at times, and it should not be intermixed with tech support so as not to distort the issue and penalize the user in trouble, and the OD should give your forum that.
I grew to 5000 postrs here almost overnight as I enjoyed the opportunity to learn help and grow which is what forums are all about, and there are a select few who seriously jeopordize that now, some of whom are one sided members as well as Mods, but that has caused to and many others to visit only occasionally now, and honestly, it has helped my forum grow dramatically.
I only hope this is a phase for you all and the 74000 members quotes by another Mod somewhere in this post pales a 350,000 member forum I belong to also, where the Admins answer their PM's as do all the Mods, and every single Mod is a sweetheart, and nothing but great help to all. In the same time period as CTH has banned about 12 users for no real reason and or deleted their posts, the other place has banned no one, threatened a few and deleted one post. Goals are obtainable, it takes teamwork and forward oriented supervison that I know you and your small group could easily attain, and I also know for you to answer affirmatively to what I say, would be extremely difficult for you.

The actions of moderators will not be discussed on the CTH forums. If you want to discuss specific actions PM the moderator in question - they won't bite, and if you do not feel comfortable PMing them then PM me.

I will not discuss the actions of moderators with CTH members. The Moderators put a lot of hard work in here, and they deserve more than that. I will however always listen and take onboard any criticism constructive or otherwise from members about CTH and how it is run. If I feel action needs to be taken, I will do so.

The comments made by CTH Moderators throughout this thread are absolutely spot on (and inparticular I thought Murfs post was excellent).

The rules were never setup to be overly restrictive - that's not who I am and not how I like things. But politics and religion topics serve rare intellectual purpose on any forums other than to cause arguments and insane one-upmanship contests between insecure people that need to reassure themselves that their beliefs are right. If you want politics go find a politics forum. If you want religion go find a forum about religion.

If the rules are not clear enough - I will rewrite them.

The CTH Moderators are good people, who do an excellent job. They are not unapproachable and neither am I.

CTH is a community with the members at the very core. The few rules that CTH has are there to preserve the kind friendly family atmosphere that it has been about since day 1.
