Google Apps help

I just started a new job and they use google apps. We were setting up their program they use for ordering stuff to email them. it asked for the smtp, so we put smtp.gmail.com, but when we test the setting it gives us an error Must issue a STARTTLS command first. I dont know what that means?? can someone please help??

TIA

Fixed this.. It needed authentication (username & password from your email) and port 465 Just thought I would put this out there incase anyone else has any issues.
