I've been reading about Windows 8 for the last couple of weeks (or even more), and it seems like people are not that interested. By interested I mean actually getting Windows 8 when it comes out. They only seem to be interested to bash it lol.
I read somewhere that in the UK most companies are not planning on using it, since Windows 7 still works fine. Lets see where this is going... |

Windows 8 looks like something you would see on a cell phone.
I don't care for it. Windows needs to stick with their original interface. |

Currently I am using Windows 7 on my Laptop and I don't think there's any need for me to upgrade it. I am satisfied with it.

I am using windows 8 now and to this point I am satisfied.
There are occasional "spikes" but i guess its because not many companies are interested in changing their products for Win8 so things might malfunction at times. I like new stuff always and the Metro style was something funny and a bit frustrating until you learn it. Speedwise i dont think my comp has improved,it feels the same. What I also like is the fact that you got many many many options available on the screen(which were always there by right click but now they are more visible with the extra "toolbar") which makes it feel more like a nerd when browsing your storage :P. Overall I still have not complaints about Win8.(only with norton antivirus I had some slow related issues before official launch,I had the preview version from microsoft's site) |

Ah. I installed it today. They crippled Windows 7 and called it 8. And now all the vendors are mandated to force new system consumers to accept it. I checked Toshiba. Windows 8, or for $99.99, they'll install Windows 7 Pro.
And has already opened the door wide for questionable vendors. If you choose Desktop, there you are - a Windows 7 desktop. And yes, no Start button (or orb). But there are plenty of vendors that are offering programs (or maybe we should call them apps, though they download and install and work just like programs) to return the Start button and menu. First one I hit was something called Pokki, from SweetLabs. Right off the Pokki logo sure looked like a colorful adware lure. And sure enough, SweetLabs used to be called OpenCandy, well know for it's pest adware - see here. So even before it's out of the paddock the buzzards are circling. Solution? Service Pack 1, which will restore the normal Windows 7 functions. I also tried Start Menu 7, which seemed more like the Windows 7 Start menu. Haven't had time to background the vendor yet, and have to admit, I never did see how to just do a shutdown using it. But didn't really have a lot of time checking things today. From a malware perspective I can already see this is going to be tougher than before, at least for those that oppose malware. Even has pre-installed and active Windows Defender, which is just Security Essentials with the name overwritten. And first thing in your face is good old search hijacking Bing. Windows 7 Beta (Vista) Windows 7 Windows 7 crippled (Windows 8) Terribly slow and odd install doing the update on a Vista system, doing it from the Vista desktop (and saving no data). After it installs, it displays the Vista desktop, then reboots to Update 12 of 24. Does that, then some difficult to grasp series of preferences (if you do the Custom Option), including kinda snookering you into a Windows Live account. Then: We're getting your pc ready. This will take a few minutes. Then: Your pc is ready. Move your mouse to any corner. (Note - no cursor showed, but pressing Enter moved to the next screen) Then: We're getting your pc ready. This will take a few minutes.. Then: We're getting your pc ready. This will take a few minutes. |

I finally did figure out how to just do a normal shutdown (or restart). Put the cursor in the lower right corner of the screen, which causes a right side "Charm Panel" to open. Click Settings, click Power, then make your selection. Quite an improvement over previous versions of Windows.
