Help with DVD burner

I have a movie editing program (Studio 9) and I produce family movies. When I send them out no one seems to be able to play the DVD. It works fine on my player.
I currently have a Sony DRU-12OA
Writes DVD+R/DVD+RW @2.4x
and CD-R @12X and CD-RW @10X

Reads DVD-ROM/DVD+R/DVD+RW @8X
I believe it's the + format. Is there a more universal DVD burner out there?
Thanks

From everything I have read lately the dvd+R format is the most compatable to date. That is to say it plays on more dvd players than most others. If you burn a dvd in dvd+R format you don't even have to use the finalise step as its done during the burn.
